The CGIAR Post Tsunami Initiatives e-Newsletter is published monthly by the CGIAR Post Tsunami Initiatives team. The content is covering developments in issues of reconstructions and rehabilitation issues of tsunami and earthquake affected areas. The newsletter will contained updates of past month news, articles, and summarized discussion related to the initiatives.

Articles of the newsletter will cover the rehabilitations and reconstructions topics, mainly from the agriculture development point of view. It wil be open by an article of a general review on Aceh/Nias's rehabilitations and reconstructions efforts after six months will be at the frontpage, followed by a specific review of rehabilitations and reconstructions from agricultural sector's point of view. It will cover the main ideas behind the CGIAR post tsunami initiatives. This article will be followed by three main sectors related to the initiatives which are agroforestry, aquaculture and forestry.

World Agroforestry Centre - SEA Office had conduct a survey to assess the impact of tsunami disaster on tree-crops survival and also to appraise the skills and awareness of local community and local government regarding to tree-crop selection and uses, tree nursery activities, tree system establishment and management, tree product production, and marketing linkages based on pre-tsunami disaster, current environment and opportunities. It will followed by the aquaculture rehabilitation initiatives, which is in Aceh this sector is socially, economically and environmentally important, and a significant part of the livelihoods of many coastal people. The main aquaculture system is brackishwater pond (locally known as tambak) farming covering around 47,000ha and producing mainly milkfish and shrimp. From the view of forestry rehabilitation, research shows that forests played a key "safety net" role in providing many people in rural areas with livelihood assistance and subsistence needs and hopes to build local research capacity by involving students from Aceh and local universities in reconstruction activities.
