Farmers and PCI to Harvest Soybean and Corn in Lhoong
In early September, tsunami survivors in Jantang area, in subdistrict of Lhoong, Aceh Besar, will start harvesting soybean, corn, and cabbage. They planted the seeds few months ago in 12 hectares of tsunami affected land, through cash-for-work organized by Project Concern International (PCI) and funded by USAID.

With assistance from local NGO Medan Peduli (Medan Care), around 50 women in tsunami village of Suak Punthong, subdistrict of Kuala, Nagan Raya, has created home industry producing banana chips. Named as Cirasa, the women have sold their banana chips to market out of Aceh region, mainly Medan.

Askrindo Supports Creation of New Aceh Rice Field
Starting from October 2005, Indonesian Logistic Agency (Bulog), in cooperation with Indonesian Farmer Association (KTNA), will create new 1,000 hectares of rice fields. The project will be financed by banks and Askrindo (Indonesian Credit Insurance) and supported by fertilizer producer.

FAO Holds Workshop on Aquaculture Rehabilitation in Aceh Province
More than 20 000 ha of tambak fish ponds were destroyed in wake of the tsunami, resulting in a major blow for the aquaculture industry in Indonesia, FAO said today. The aquaculture sub-sector is socially, economically and environmentally important and plays a significant part in the livelihoods of inhabitants of many coastal villages in Aceh Province.
