UNDP Backs to Core
Business
After had been busy as garbage collector in Aceh during the last
eight months, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will
return to its core business. The agency now will shift its focus
toward long-term employment opportunities, such as skills training,
just like what International Labour Organization (ILO) has
currently do in Indonesia tsunami zone.

Reconstruction
The USAID five year strategy in Indonesia (FY 2004-2008), focuses
on five key strategic directions, with cross cutting themes that
focus on working at the local level, fighting corruption, and
developing public-private partnerships that support all of our
program objectives. These five strategic directions are: 1)
improving the quality of decentralized basic education, 2)
improving the delivery of basic human services such as health care
and clean water, 3) advancing democratic, decentralized governance,
4) strengthening economic growth and promoting job creation and, of
course, 5) providing critical post-Tsunami reconstruction
assistance.

ADB to Provide US$6 Million in Grants for
Tsunami-affected Ereas of Indonesia
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved three grants totaling
US$6 million from its Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR) to
help improve livelihoods, rehabilitate natural resources, and
provide earthquake-resistant housing in tsunami-affected areas of
Indonesia. The JFPR is financed by the Government of Japan.

Aceh: Commission reconstruction activities
post-Tsunami
The European Commission is keeping its promises on the long-term
reconstruction of the Indonesias Aceh province following the
Tsunami. After a first payment of 30 million last July, it has now
approved a further contribution of 38 million out of the 207
million pledged for Indonesia. To coordinate the EU reconstruction
activities, the Commission is establishing within the next days the
"Europe House" in Banda Aceh. Most of the Commission
funds to the region are channelled through the Multi-Donor Trust
Fund for the post-Tsunami reconstruction.

Hundreds of Land Officers Sent to
Aceh
To foster the process of land re-registration in Aceh, National
Land Agency (BPN) decided to send 180 of its officer from other
provinces of Indonesia to help its Aceh office. They will start
their work starting from September 17.

Triangle Completes Three Fish Markets in
Aceh Besar
The Triangle Generation Humanitarie (TGH), a French NGO, has
completed construction of 3 out of 4 planned fish auction markets
(TPI) in Aceh Besar district. A ceremony to inaugurate the new fish
auction markets held on Monday in TPI Lhoknga, along with the
handing over of 50 boats to local fishermen.

NGOs Provide 11.62 Tons of Fake Rice
Seeds
Two NGOs had provided 11.62 tons of fake rice seeds to tsunami
farmers in West Aceh. The seeds bought from three sources: two
local suppliers from West Aceh and a seed producer from South Aceh.
It is impossible to replace the seeds, as half of the farmers are
already near harvesting their crops.

Chicken Industry in Aceh Not Success
Yet
Members of Aceh House of Representative on Tuesday visited Saree,
Aceh Besar, to evaluate the progress of the chicken egg industry
project. They concluded the project hasnt brought good results as
one third of the 35,000 chicken died due to various diseases.

IOM Distributes Ducks to Tsunami
Widows
(International Organization for Migration) IOM distributed 380
adult ducks to 38 women who attended a 5-day IOM facilitated
livelihood training programme on duck husbandry and business skills
on August 20th.
