Senegalese Parliamentarians meet in Dakar October
2006
The CGIAR hosted a briefing for Senegalese Members of Parliament
October 30-31, 2006, in Dakar, Senegal. The meeting was inaugurated
by a representative of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural
Hydraulics and Food Security.
Dr Papa Abdoulaye Seck, Director General of The Africa Rice
Center spoke on behalf of CGIAR. Researchers from CIAT, IFPRI,
ICRAF, ICRISAT, ILRI, IWMI, and the Africa Rice Center delivered
presentations.
H.E. Mr. Khoureychi Thiam, Vice-President of the National
Assembly, Taib Diouf, General Director of ISRA, Dr Oumar Diall,
ILRI and Papa Abdoulaye Seck, Director General of the Africa Rice
Center presented closing remarks during a round table encouraging
open dialogue and debate among participants. Parliamentarians
voiced their support for strengthening research for national
development and called for increasing partnerships with the CGIAR.
The event, held as part of the CGIAR Marketing Group's
Parliamentarian Campaign, was organized jointly by IFPRI,
l'Institut Sénégalais de Recherches Agricoles (ISRA) and the
CGIAR Secretariat.
