Nourishing the Future through Scientific Excellence

The Government of Mexico hosted the CGIAR's Annual General Meeting 2004. Over 1,000 international and Mexican policy makers, agricultural research experts, scientists, and development specialists attended the event.

"The Government of Mexico is honored to host the CGIAR's Annual General Meeting," said The Hon. Javier Usabiaga, Secretary of Agriculture, Mexico. "The outcomes will be of great importance in assisting member countries to make decisions that accelerate the fight against poverty and hunger and foster policies that benefit poor farmers and poor people."

Centers' and Members' Day
Opening address on behalf the CGIAR Centers followed by bilateral meetings between Centers and Members. An extensive exhibtion opens showcased the work of the CGIAR Centers, national research institutions, the Government of Mexico and partner organizations.
Exhibition includes the Innovation Marketplace
A display of innovative projects developed by civil society partners.
Reception Hosted by the Government of Mexico

Mexico and CGIAR Day
Participants visited CIMMYT and INIFAP. Each trip highlighted the impact of agricultural research partnerships between inter-national and national institutes and showcase the contribution the institutes are making to alleviating poverty. In all cases visitors had the chance to discuss current projects with scientists, national partners and farmers, and observe the impact of research.

Presentation of CGIAR Science Awards
Winners of the CGIAR Science Awards: The CGIAR King Baudouin Award, Promising Young Scientist, Outstanding Scientist, Outstanding Scientific Support Team, Outstanding Partnership, Outstanding Scientific Article, Outstanding Journalism, and Outstanding Communications accepted their awards. Celebration of the Founding of the CGIAR - Luncheon Robert McNamara, Norman Borlaug, and Evangelina Villegas spoke about the beginnings of the CGIAR.
The Sir John Crawford Memorial Lecture

a forum for dialogue with Ministers from Latin America and the Caribbean and CGIAR Member countries, convened by Ian Johnson and co-chaired by The Hon. Javier Usabiaga, Secretary of Agriculture, Mexico and Usha Barwale-Zehr, Chair CGIAR Private Sector Committee.
