Thirteen-year-old Selena Otieno says, "I'm going to be a teacher one day." Her younger brother Eric wants to be a farmer. "Farmers are rich men because they always have food, " he says. The bananas growing in their homestead are thriving because their parents planted improved varieties. Scientists are producing disease-resistant banana and maize varieties and new livestock vaccines. These may allow Selena and Eric to attend secondary school.
