Machakos

Katuki Kilonzo plants maize, beans and pigeon pea on her 4-acre farm in the drylands of Machakos. These must sustain eight adults and four children. "Life has been a struggle." She looks down on the weeds encroaching on her parched land. "I worry about my future, farming this way. But God still made this land for farming." Small-scale water harvesting can help Katuki stave off crop failure and famine.
