Rehabilitation of Agricultural Systems in Aceh - Developing ‘Nurseries of Excellence’
Project activities are explicitly designed to assist small-holder farmers gain access to high quality planting materials and provide them with the skills necessary to establish and operate nurseries. Participants are likely to range from individual small-holders wanting to improve their livelihoods by growing more productive tree crops, to farmer and community groups who have similar aims, and to families or small groups who have the goal of establishing local commercial nursery operations.

Trees, Resilience and Livelihood Recovery in the Tsunami-affected Coastal Zone of Aceh and North Sumatra (Indonesia): Rebuilding Green Infrastructure with Trees People Want
The consortium of four institutions (ICRAF, University of Hohenheim, LRPI and ISRI) will join forces first for a systematic analysis of the land – tree – market chain for the pre- and post-Tsunami conditions to understand the damage done and better plan for recovery. In the action mode for rehabilitation efforts, the project will enhance farmer learning and extension of existing income-enhancing technology for better tree management and harvesting practices – with technological support from on-going development efforts elsewhere in Indonesia in which the consortium partners are involved.

Start up working group on Livelihoods and Natural Resource Management along Aceh's West Coast: Agroforestry, Coastal Protection Forest and Forest Management
BAPPENAS master plan for Aceh’s post-tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts based on a holistic, comprehensive and integrated analysis. However, at local level, the transfer from planning to action is still slow, while perceptions of what is possible are gradually evolving. Various international bodies and organization have been working together with local governments and/or NGO to support rehabilitation efforts aiming at normalizing the people’s livelihood. Inline with the main goals, in support for the site level’s rehabilitation and coordination efforts led by UNDP, there is a need to have a more targeted working group to face livelihoods and INRM related activities. A four days multi-stakeholders meeting and discussion will be held at Meulaboh, facilitating the need.

Fisheries Rehabilitation in Tsunami-Affected Indonesia: Community Needs Assessment and Resource Status
Aceh's coastal fishing communities employ 16 per cent of the population and provide half of dietary protein intake through fish. The tsunami destroyed a large part of the fishing fleet, associated infrastructure and reduced fishing earning. Evidence of unsustainable fishing practices and overfishing threatening fisheries was emerging pre-tsunami. An understanding of the social, economic and resource issues that constrain fisher incomes, combined with the status of fisheries, will be examined to help ensure long-term sustainability of coastal communities. These activities will also support the Indonesian Strategy for Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of the fishing sector in Aceh and Nias post earthquake and tsunami wave disaster, developed by the Ministry for Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

Impact of the Tsunami Disaster on Tree-Crops Survival and Marketing Assessment: The Ecological recovery in Aceh Barat and Nagan Raya District, NAD Province
The Tsunami’s greatest impact has been on rural coastal communities. Before the tsunami, the men, women, and children in these communities were highly dependent on coastal fisheries, agriculture, aquaculture and agroforestry. But the natural resources supporting these livelihoods were already severely depleted due to unsustainable practices.
