Photo Competition 2007 - Portraits of Impact of Agricultural Science
The photo competition is now closed. Over 100 submissions were received and were reviewed by an independent group of three judges. The top 24 photos, including the prize winners will be on exhibit during the CGIAR Annual General Meeting 2007 (AGM07) in Beijing, China from December 3-6, 2007.
The theme of this years photo contest – Portraits of Impact of Agricultural Science was intended to bring to light images of how agricultural research– from inception in labs and experimental fields to implementation in farming communities - impacts people’s lives. The benefits of agricultural science are visible throughout the world in both obvious and subtle ways. Fields of golden wheat ready for harvest or a corpulent cow depict results. However, the smile of a healthy child, an expression of hope on a farmer’s face, or the confident stance of a rural woman is the true sign that agriculture research is benefiting the world. Thus the focus on “portraits”. Portraits capture much more than the physical world, they communicate character and tell a story.
