About Marrakech

Marrakech, known as the "Pearl of the South" is a city in southwestern Morocco in the foothills fo the Atlas Mountains. Marrakech is a Berber word: it means the country of God (murt 'n akush).

Marrakech is Morocco's second largest city and its population, estimated at around one million, continues to rise. The largest population of Marrakech are Berber. The city has a prosperous industrial area and is the most significant market and organizational centre of Southern Morocco. Its beauty lies in the atmosphere and its spectacular location.

Marrakech is truly the city of entertainment in Morocco. In the center of Marrakech is a square, Djemaa el fna, which is the operating point for entertainers like acrobats, drummers, dancers, pipe musicians, and storytellers. The souks are interesting places in alleys and small squares which are dedicated to specific crafts, where you can often watch part of the making process. The Marrakech Museum is also a place of note; it houses exhibitions of Moroccan art and sculpture, both traditional and contemporary.

Marrakech is served by Ménara International Airport, located just four kilometers from the city.
