The
Government of Mexico hosted the CGIAR's Annual General Meeting
2004. Over 1,000 international and Mexican policy makers,
agricultural research experts, scientists, and development
specialists attended the event.
"The
Government of Mexico is honored to host the CGIAR's Annual
General Meeting," said The Hon. Javier Usabiaga, Secretary
of Agriculture, Mexico. "The outcomes will be of great
importance in assisting member countries to make decisions
that accelerate the fight against poverty and hunger and foster
policies that benefit poor farmers and poor people."

followed by bilateral meetings between Centers

the work of the CGIAR Centers, national research
institutions, the Government of Mexico and partner

Mexico and CGIAR Day
Participants visited CIMMYT and INIFAP. Each
trip highlighted the impact of agricultural
research partnerships between inter-national
and national institutes and showcase the contribution
the institutes are making to alleviating poverty.
In all cases visitors had the chance to discuss
current projects with scientists, national partners
and farmers, and observe the impact of research.
