CGIAR: Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research
Nourishing the Future through Scientific Excellence

The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) welcomed almost 1,000 International and Kenyan policy makers, agricultural research experts, scientists and development specialists to the Group's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Nairobi, Kenya from October 28 to October 31, 2003. Participants discussed agricultural research and technology, food policy initiatives and new ways of working to ensure that world class science continues to address critical global challenges while delivering real benefits to the poor.

Kenya joined the CGIAR in 1995 and has made substantial contributions to international agricultural research, including hosting the headquarters of the World Agroforestry Centre and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). The Kenya Agricultural Research Institute ( KARI) works closely with many CGIAR Centers and in 1997 received the CGIAR Outstanding Scientific Partnership Award for its leadership role in establishing effective partnerships through community development projects with stakeholders.
