in the last 40 years potatoes have changed from a ‘northern; crop, with 15 % produced in the south, to one in which nearly half potato production is in less-developed countries. This unprecedented rapid growth of production continues in developing countries. CIP is highly decentralized, with scientists working in Asia, Africa and Latin America. This global presence helps ensure that the Center’s research is appropriate to the needs of the many different regions where potatoes are vital to the people.
