APPOINTMENTS
New Director General of CIAT Appointed
The CIAT Board of Trustees appointed Ruben Echeverria, current Executive Director of the CGIAR Science Council, as the next Director General of CIAT. Ruben will officially join CIAT in late March 2009. He will succeed Geoff Hawtin, whose good stewardship of CIAT has been highly valued.
EXHIBITION
Future Foods Exhibition at the London Science Museum

With support from the CGIAR, the Science Museum in London is organizing an exhibition and a series of public debates themed Future Foods which explores the topic of genetic modification as a technology to increase food production to feed the world. The exhibition will provide an explanation of what genetic modification is, what the alternatives are and how agricultural technologies can be harnessed to boost sustainable crop production. The exhibit will be open to the public free of charge from December 17 through May 31, 2009. Read more and stay tuned for further updates at:

BOOK LAUNCH
Passion Beyond Normal Launched at AGM08
Passion Beyond Normal highlights the CGIAR’s work through real-life stories of success, hope, and promise in the lives of those involved in agriculture in nine sub-Saharan African countries. Written by a journalist formerly with the Boston Globe, John Donnelly, and with photos by award winning photographer Dominic Chavez, the stories bring to life a few of the highest achievements in the more than three decades of the CGIAR’s work. Four CGIAR-affiliated scientists received awards at Tri-Society meetings
Four CGIAR-affiliated scientists received awards at the Tri-Society meetings in Houston (Oct.5-9, 2008). The photo below includes the four CG awardees with the President of the American Society of Agronomy (ASA).
