December 2006 Report on AGM06: World Bank Hosts CGIAR Annual Meeting More than 750 CGIAR Members, research managers, scientists and development specialists, including a sizable group of representatives from civil society organizations, or CSOs, participated in the CGIAR’s Annual General Meeting 2006, which was held at the Washington Hilton and the World Bank in Washington, DC. CSO Forum: Forging Stronger Partnerships for Research and Development They came from around the world – more than 100 representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) – keen to talk about their collaborative work with Centers and Challenge Programs supported by the CGIAR. CGIAR Photo Competition : An Eye on Change through Agricultural Science The CGIAR’s 35 th Anniversary photo competition drew nearly100 submissions from the staff of Centers supported by the CGIAR. CGIAR Awards: Celebrating Excellence in Science and Communication The CGIAR paid tribute to eight world-class researchers or research teams during the opening session of the Stakeholder Meeting of its Annual General Meeting. Their achievements are helping reduce hunger, poverty and environmental degradation throughout the developing world. Belgian Senate President Delivers 2006 Crawford Lecture This year’s Crawford lecturer was the Honorable Anne-Marie Lizin, President of the Belgian Senate and Chairperson of the Senate Foreign Relations and Defense Committee.
