CGIAR is committed to delivering research results that benefit poor rural women.

Despite important steps forward, women still do not derive sufficient benefit from agricultural research. The subject of gender must be addressed if the full potential of CGIAR Research Programs is to be met.  November 2011 saw the approval of the Consortium Level Gender Strategy. This strategy outlined how the CGIAR Consortium will improve the relevance of its research to poor women, as well as men.  It also makes a commitment to improve recruitment, retention, training and support in order to improve the gender balance in research.

To generate understanding and support for the implementation of this strategy a meeting was held on 15th June 2012 attended by both Funders and CGIAR Research Program representatives. The meeting highlighted the speed and seriousness with which the Consortium and the Programs are integrating gender into research.
