World leaders at the 2008 G8 Summit issued a Statement on Global Food Security that includes a commitment to the promotion of agricultural research and development through the CGIAR. The CGIAR welcomes the statement by the G8 and expresses gratitude to Japan in its leadership role as the host country and president of the 2008 G8 Summit.
