Consortium Board

The Consortium Board leads the CGIAR Consortium, sets policies, and is responsible for the attainment of the CGIAR Consortium’s purpose. The Consortium Board has ten members, including an ex officio member, the Chief Executive Officer of the CGIAR Consortium.

The Consortium Board provides policy direction and leadership to the CGIAR Consortium:

  • Oversees the development of the Strategy and Results Framework, the road map for CGIAR Consortium research;
  • Accounts for funds received from the CGIAR Fund;
  • Reviews the performance of Research Centers which are members of the CGIAR Consortium;
  • Mobilizes financial resources;
  • Is responsible for the Consortium Office; and
  • Regularly reviews the performance of the CGIAR Consortium.

Setting policy and research strategy

The Consortium Board leads the CGIAR Consortium and sets policies. The Consortium Board sets the science strategy across the system and ensures CGIAR Research Programs cohere and interact. Where appropriate the Consortium Board takes guidance from the Independent Science and Partnership Council. The Consortium Board directs the development of the road map for research, the Strategy and Results Framework, and has it reviewed and endorsed by all parts of the CGIAR system.

Ensuring accountability

The Consortium Board has ultimate financial and operational responsibility for all funds for research received by the CGIAR Consortium from the CGIAR Fund. The Consortium Board decides on the priorities for funding and how funds should be allocated across the Research Centers which are members of the CGIAR Consortium and CGIAR Research Programs. The Consortium Board monitors and evaluates progress, and reports to donors.

Mobilizing resources

The Consortium Board is responsible for funding policies and works with the Fund Council to mobilize resources. The Consortium Board and Fund Council allocate funding for research and operational budgets.

Consortium Board committees

The Consortium Board has set up five committees:

  • The Executive Committee;
  • The Audit and Risk Committee;
  • The Science Programs and Partnership Committee;
  • The Nominations and Evaluation Committee; and
  • The Member Interest Committee.
