The CGIAR Regional Award for Outstanding Agricultural Technology in the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) Region 2008

A special award presented to a NARS scientist/researcher or research team in the Sub-Saharan Africa region who has developed during the past five years an outstanding technology or research product that has actual or potential contribution to increased productivity or quality of agriculture, improved food quality and / or improved management of natural resources in the region.

 Nomination Criteria

The technology:

  • was developed by a NARS institution/organization (NARI, university, CSO, private sector) in the SSA region;
  • has actual or potential contribution to increased productivity of agriculture and/or improved management of natural resources; and
  • has actual or potential spillover effects to other parts of the region

Nomination Requirements

Nominations may be submitted by a NARS institution/organization or regional organization. Nominations should include information relevant to the award criteria as described above and should consist of:

  • a brief description (2 pages or less) of the technology and how it was developed;
  • documentary evidence of its contribution to increased productivity and/or improved management of natural resources (published report/data of performance in field conditions, recognition by national or international organizations/agencies, testimonies by farmers/beneficiaries, etc )
